Back to School Craft
This cute pencil wrap is a darling way to create a back to school craft from a digital download and can be used for annual Back to School Time Capsules, school themed party favors, student pencil canisters and teacher appreciation gifts. It’s just another way to mark the new school year with excitement and anticipation.
Time Capsules: A great back to school craft for families to create together. I loved the idea shared by Heather Johnson of FamilyVolley.com on her Studio 5 appearance back in 2014. She created a free great back to school time capsule questionnaire printable on her site along with providing great ideas on information and items to include in your child’s annual time capsule. Use the pencil wrap download I created here to help decorate and personalize these time capsules. Save the download and use later for teacher appreciation gifts, student pencil canisters or favors to a school themed event. There are so many applications during the year!

Below you can find the free download printable file for KSL Studio 5 viewers this week only. After this week, you can find the link for purchase at my Etsy shop HERE.
This back to school craft is a great way to reuse those handy little cans we often find in our recycle bins after the summer picnics and barbecues.
- 11X17 print out from the pencil wrap digital files
- Digital print quality 11X17 cardstock (Hammermill 80-120lb cardstock) 1 printable per sheet
- Empty, clean 5.96 oz Pringles can (You can trim yellow part for smaller cans)
- Pair of scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Black Sharpie marker to personalize, many other pens smear on the color coated print.
- Silver 1/2″ wide ribbon (optional* gluing ribbon around the metal part of the pencil adds a vibrant, silver color and texture, but not necessary)
Cut out the pencil base on a paper trimmer. Glue the yellow edge to the edge of the can opening. It is glued at this end so that the pencil tip can be glued on the removable plastic lid. The pink eraser end is glued with the pink part at the bottom of the can.
Cut out the circle exactly. There is a little edge that is “off” in the circle. The ends line up to make a smooth circle once the lead tip is glued in place.
Cut the slit on the dotted line and and shape it into a cone, sliding the edge of the slit just past the second solid line on the “wood” part.
Glue a bead of hot glue just inside the ridge on the lid, place the “lead” cone on top of that glue to secure in place.
This great little Back to School craft creates the perfect packaging to contain all the treasures of an annual time capsule, a handful of sweets for teacher appreciation, or a bouquet of pencils for the hardworking student.

Personal note (unsponsored) I love printing off at my local UPS Store. They were able to take the files from my flash drive and print out both the JPEG and PDF files perfectly. The color was great. I always bring in a my own high quality digital print cardstock by Hammermill that helps to give it that vibrant color. FedEx Office does a great job too, they just charge more.
